CSA Africa is a transformative international outreach initiative under the School of Computing Science. Founded by Dr. Sofiat Olaosebikan, the initiative is driven by her personal journey of overcoming limited access to computing education in Nigeria to become an academic in the field. Her story fuels our commitment to bridging the tech education gap across Africa, ensuring that young Africans have the opportunity to build successful careers in technology.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every young African can harness the power of computing to innovate, create, and drive economic growth. Our mission is to provide free, high-quality Python programming workshops across African countries, equipping university students, early-career academics, and professionals with the skills they need to excel in the tech industry.

Our Approach and Impact

CSA Africa is bridging the digital skills gap by equipping young Africans with coding expertise, problem-solving skills, and access to global tech opportunities. Beyond technical training, we foster a supportive alumni network, connecting participants with mentors, internships, and career pathways that transform lives.

By removing financial barriers through free workshops, travel, childcare, and accommodation support, we ensure that motivation and passion (not privilege) determine access to tech education.

Since our inception, we have:

• Facilitated four Python programming workshops in collaboration with African universities.

• Trained over 500 young Africans from 11 different African countries.

• Connected beneficiaries to industry mentors, internships, and global opportunities.

• Our initiative directly contributes to Africa’s growing digital economy, creating a pipeline of job-ready candidates while empowering underrepresented groups, especially women in tech.

The impact of our work extends far beyond coding. Many of our alumni have successfully transitioned into careers in tech, while others have secured international scholarships for graduate studies. CSA Africa is not just about teaching programming; we are rewriting the narrative for young Africans by ensuring that talent is nurtured and given the opportunity to thrive.
